Car fire on Al Wasl street jams traffic

Latest: Traffic congestion was reported on Dubai-Al Ain road, near Sky Courts, following two accidents, an eyewitness told this website. One accident involved a sedan and a pick-up truck, while the other involved a four-wheel drive and a couple of other cars.

Earlier, a car was on fire on Al Wasl street this morning, resulting in long tailbacks.

A Civil Defence spokesperson informed it was a “small car” and there has been no “injury or death”. “The Al Manara Fire station got the call at 7.36am and the fire was put out by 7.43am.”

Dubai Police wrote on their official twitter handle, "An accident of fire in a vehicle has been reported on Al Wasl Road  from Academy cross towards UmAlSheif opposite ENOC Petrol Station." The tweet was posted at 8.18am.

“Car on fire at the start of Al Wasl street causing traffic on Umm Sequim heading to Dubai,” tweeted a motorist at 7.54am.

Another tweeted, “Car on fire on Al Wasl Road, from Umm Suqeim in Dubai.”

More information on the extent of damage is awaited.

Traffic has piled up on the Umm Suqeim interchange, and tailbacks were spotted to Mall of the Emirates on Sheikh Zayed road. "Accessing Safa park is also chaotic," reported a motorist.
