A Civil Defence team has put out the fire which started in a car on Sheikh Zayed Road this afternoon. But the traffic is moving at snail's pace since only two lanes have been opened by the police.

A Toyota Corolla caught fire at around 2.30pm in the middle lane of Sheikh Zayed Road in front of Tecom, heading towards Dubai.

Three police cars, one Civil Defence vehicle and an ambulance were still on the scene around 4.30pm.

Police was on the scene trying to bring the situation under control, with traffic backing up on the highway. According to eyewitness Deepak Bakshi, the vehicles were being routed to the Greens Community exit until Civil Defence brought the situation under control.

Police closed four lanes and allowed motorists to use only two – extreme left and right lanes.

It is unclear whether anyone was injured.
