Cleaner buries stolen mobile phone to hide theft

A cleaner buried a stolen mobile phone in the sand under a tree to hide the theft.

JAN, 25, a cleaner at Depa Limited, was given a mobile phone by his friend who asked him to hide it as it was stolen. JAN buried the mobile in the sand under a tree.

Five Bangladeshis identified as MHM, 26, worker; RSL, 22, worker; MHK, 28, cleaner; and MTM, 26, general assistant, appeared before the Dubai Criminal Court for stealing a Nokia mobile phone and Dh500 from Hussain Ahmad after beating him.

JAN was accused of possessing the mobile despite the knowledge that it has been stolen.

On November 28 last year police was informed by the operations room about a physical assault and theft, testified policeman Ahmad Mohammed, 43, before the prosecution.

He said a police patrol brought in MHK who confessed that MHM, RSL and MTM as his partners in the crime. Police brought the accused from their accommodation, which belongs to Nafco.

When asked about the mobile, MHM confessed giving it to JAN. The latter led police where he had buried it under a tree near his accommodation.

The accused denied stealing the Dh500 before the prosecution, but confessed beating up Hussain Ahmad.

However, the five accused denied the accusation before the Dubai Criminal Court and asked for a verdict.

The court adjourned the case for verdict until August 31.
