Cop who raped waitress gets one year

A policeman who kidnapped a Moroccan woman, took her to a desert area and raped her, was sentenced to one year in jail by the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance.

According to the records, on June 7, SAR, 26, Omani, who works for Dubai Police Transport Security, asked LBO, 27, waitress, for her documents and then asked her to get into his car to go the police station.

Instead, he allegedly took her to the desert and raped her. He then dropped her at her friend’s house in Sharjah. The victim alleged that on their way to her friend's house, he threatened to lodge a complaint against her and said his father was the Sharjah Police Chief.

LBO testified that she arrived in the country on a work visa a year-and-a-half ago and was working as a waitress in a hotel on a monthly salary of Dh1,700. On June 7, at around 2am, she met her friends Bushra and Yasmin outside her house. They went to a shisha café and, at around 3am, hailed a cab to go to Bushra’s house.

“In the taxi, three people including the accused asked the taxi driver to stop. My friend Yasmin asked two of the men about the reason for stopping the taxi. The third was talking on the phone. They told her not to interfere and asked the driver for his papers,” testified the victim. “I got down with Bushra to take another cab, Yasmin stayed and then the men asked the taxi driver to start the vehicle. Bushra took a taxi and left. I stayed waiting for another taxi. The accused approached me and offered to drop me at my house.

“When I refused, he prevented taxis from picking me up by asking the taxi drivers to move when they stopped close to me. When I fought with him about that, he said he is a policeman and he will take me to the police station to check my papers and dragged me into his car.
“He had shown his ID card to the first taxi driver, so I knew he was a cop and got into his car. On the way, he told me he will teach me politeness. He locked the doors of the car and drove to a sandy area in Al Khawaneej.

“He said: ‘I am going to kill you because you are not polite and I will teach you politeness’. He stopped the car and asked me to get down but I refused. He got out of the car pulled my hair and pulled me out of the car and raped me. Then he left the place but after about 15 minutes I saw him coming back. He told me that the only good thing he will do to me is drop me home. I asked him to drop me at my friend’s place in Sharjah.

“I arrived at my friend’s house at around 5am. I had noted his car’s number. I told my friend what happened so we decided to call him and record the call. He repeated his threat. Then we filed a complaint at Al Murraqqabat police station," she testified.

Bushra, 28, repeated the same testimony and said she called him after he dropped the victim to make him say what he did to her as she was recording the call.

First Sergeant Saleh Nasser testified that the accused was arrested from his house in Ajman on June 8 at around 8pm.Police checked the CCTV cameras of the hotel the victim mentioned and found out that three women got into a taxi and then the accused with two others stopped the taxi and presented their ID cards to the driver.

“We saw two of the three women get down from the car. Then the camera showed the victim standing alone and then disappear from the camera’s field,” he testified.

The accused told police that he stopped the taxi driver because he was blocking the traffic. The three women got down from the car. Two took another cab while the third stayed alone and then approached him and asked him to drop her home in his car. He told investigating officers that on their way to her house she started touching him and tried to seduce him. He took her to a sandy area at Al Warqa area where he had consensual sex with her and then dropped her at her friend’s house in Sharjah as per her request.
