The Dubai Criminal court heard on Thursday how a Nigerian national accused of credit card fraud and counterfeiting US dollar bills attacked a policeman who went to arrest him.

The policeman claimed in his testimony that the attack was so severe that he required an operation on his legs and steel rods to be inserted.

JIL, 31, is one of three Nigerians accused in the case.

The other two are identified as IAA, 28 and RBT, 34. These two were first arrested at Bani Yas square following a tip-off to police about forged credit cards on February 2.

The two were arrested near Habib Bank and the police confiscated two credit cards with forged signatures.

The two men led the police to the third Nigerian who was staying at Al Dana hotel.

While two policemen went to check on his room, one waited at the reception.

“I saw an African coming in. He shouted: “What… What?” and attacked me. I sustained a leg injury. However, my colleagues came and arrested him,” testified the policeman, adding that he was rushed to the hospital, where his leg was operated upon and steel rods were used to fix the fracture.

The hotel’s receptionist, NK, 46, from India, also testified that when the policeman approached the accused, they had a fight and the two fell down the stairs to the hotel’s entrance. The accused kicked the policeman and attempted to run away, but the other two policemen arrested him.

The police also confiscated forged US dollar bills totaling 900.

The court adjourned the case for verdict until the end of this month.
