Crackdown on illegal staff in schools

Private schools in Sharjah would face the rod as the Residency and Foreigners Affairs Department in Sharjah and the Sharjah Educational Zone (SEZ) have combined to launch a campaign aimed at cleaning up all schools of any violators of residency laws.

The drive, which will commence from next academic year, would pursue legal actions against the offenders including schools, teachers, administration officers and labourers, Khaleej Times reported.

“The campaign mainly targets teachers and administration officers, who are not adhering to the residence visa rules,” said Brigadier Abdullah bin Sahoo, Director-General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs Department in Sharjah,

Appreciating the pivotal role played by SEZ and its director Saeed Al Kaabi for cooperating with the department to launch the campaign, Sahoo said “the cooperation between the two are existing, and earlier the department had launched crackdowns on workers recruited by cleaning companies in schools.”

Calling a teacher working illegally as incompetent and lacking educational ethics, he noted that if found guilty both the teachers and schools would be penalised severely.

The announcement follows instructions issued recently by SEZ to all private schools in the emirate to employ teachers, administrative staff and workers by legal way and avoid recruiting absconding staff, even temporarily, to maintain the name and reputation of the school and abide by the rules and regulations governing education.
