ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 has many more matches to be played and won but Team India has already emerged as a winner when it comes to merchandise sale on a website in the UAE.

Souq.com, the official online e-tailer for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 in the Middle East, has just awarded India this laurel as 60 per cent of World Cup merchandise sales on the platform are related to Team India, highlighting that fan support is at fever pitch with India tipped to replicate their World Cup win from 2011.

ICC World Cup merchandise has been the top selling item on various ecommerce platforms in some of the countries that have made it to the league.

Cricket crazy India has reported huge jump in sales. ICC India's official online shop and ESPN Cricinfo online stores operated by Gaames Unlimited, a Bengaluru-based sports management company in India expects to sell merchandise worth $10 million in India, Australia and New Zealand.

In the UAE, the big Indian community has helped to drive the numbers up. The souq figures show after India, Pakistan follows with 15 per cent and Sri Lanka with 10 per cent of the sales.

The UAE National team that has qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1996 has had a healthy 5 per cent of the sales so far. The remaining 10 per cent of the overall sales related to the World Cup merchandise is attributed to other participating teams.

“With the large Indian population in this region, we expected India sales to do well. However, the fact that 60 per cent of all sales are for Team India shows the staggering support that they have in this region,” says Mahendra Asar, general manager of Souq.com UAE.
