A number of road accidents have been reported across the UAE as dense fog reduces visibility to less than 50 metres in parts of the country.

Several accidents have been reported on Sheikh Zayed Road, near the Shahama bridge, heading into Abu Dhabi, with people reporting delays near Al Raha and Mafraq areas.

A Twitter picture indicates several cars involved in the Shahama accident, with the rear of a silver SUV, along with a white sedan crushed in.

Meanwhile, dense fog is also being reported on E77, on the Dubai-Lahbab Road between E611-Emirates Rd and Sheikh Zayed Road.

Traffic Dubai tweets: "Please slow down and make yourself visible but using lights."

IAD Group has also appealed to morning commuters, tweeting: "Absolute madness due to fog related accident on Sheikh Zayed Road towards Abu Dhabi after JAFZA. Please slow down. Make yourself visible."

Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi Airport has issued an alert on its website for passengers to anticipate delays due to the severe fog.

The statement says: “Foggy conditions are expected in the morning which may cause delays to some flights. Passengers are strongly advised to check with their airlines before setting off for the airport.”

The airport’s departure live ticker is indicating several departing flights have been delayed, including Milan, Phuket, Paris, Dublin and more.

An update from Dubai Airports is expected imminently.

Abu Dhabi Police tweeted images of fog related crashes that occurred in the capital this morning near the Shahama Bridge, with the image showing a Lexus crushed on the side.

Commuters have stated as many as eight to 10 cars were involved in the morning crash.
