Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Dewa, has commenced construction work and the commissioning of a 400 kv main substation at Seih Al Dahl to connect the projects of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park to its grid, and to provide power to Mohammed Bin Rashid City.

The initiative is a part of Dewa's commitment to the initiatives launched by the Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dewa, stated that Dewa has appointed a specialised global consultant to prepare the specifications and plans of the substation and to prepare documents of the tender that will be put out to contractors.

"According to the construction plan, the substation will be commissioned by 2017 to connect the second project of the Solar Park, which will produce 100 Megawatts to provide electricity to Mohammed Bin Rashid City and other areas. In the future, other projects of the Solar Park that will be implemented will be connected to this substation. Upon completion of the Solar Park, total production capacity will reach 1000 Megawatts and will provide electricity to the Mohammed Bin Rashid City and other development projects," said Al Tayer.

"Dewa is relentlessly pursuing its goals to implement the initiative of ‘Green Economy For Sustainable Development’ launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, that aims to develop green technologies to achieve sustainable development, which tops Dewa’s strategic plans," said Al Tayer.
