Sheep dealers selling their livestock outside authorized markets will be fined up to Dh100,000, UAE authorities have warned, as demand for sheep surged ahead of the Muslem Eid Al Adha later this month.

Dealers must also provide customers with a bill showing the price of the sheep and the name and address of the seller.

“Those found to be selling sheep outside authorized markets will be fined between Dh5,000 and Dh100,000,” said Hashim Al Nuaimi, director of the consumer protection division at the Ministry of Economy.

Speaking to Arabic newspapers on Sunday, he urged the public to report any offences by sheep dealers seeking to take advantage of the big demand ahead of Eid Al Adha, which is expected on October 26.
