Dial 901 for queries and 999 for emergency

The General Department of Community Service, Dubai Police, called on public to use the new toll free number '901' for general queries. This is to avoid non-emergency calls and enquries on '999', reported 'Al Khaleej' newspaper.

Non-emergency queries such as traffic fines, information about issuance of birth, death, burial and other certificates; social security issues; medical concerns, etc., can be made on '901'.

Major General Jassim Mohammed Ba Rumaitha, Director-General, Operations, Dubai Police, said '999' received 1,979,878 telephone calls last year. Of which,  1,524,830 calls or 77.72 per cent were enquiries. While in 2009, out of the 2,282,601 calls received 1,794,553 or 78 per cent were non-emergency calls.

Maj Gen Bal Rumaitha said though the the toll free number '901'has been inoperation since October, the department received only 10,000 calls so far as people continue using '999' for queries.
