Some private schools in Dubai that offer Indian curriculum have announced a four-day weekend starting Thursday.

The schools have marked Thursday and Sunday to celebrate the Indian festival Diwali.

Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) confirmed this. “Some Indian schools have chosen to take Sunday off for Diwali, but this was marked in their calendars submitted to KHDA for approval in May,” an official confirmed.

“Some Indian schools have Sunday off, in line with holidays in their home country.”

A parent, whose child attends the Delhi Private School at the Gardens, confirmed that his child will be home from Thursday, and will return to school on Monday. “It’s a long weekend for my little girl.”

However, when Emirates24|7 cross-checked with the school, they clarified that the holiday on Sunday was pending KHDA approval and the decision would be updated on their school website soon.

Elite English School and Ambassador School confirmed they were closed for four days, starting Thursday.

For some schools, the Diwali school break started early on Wednesday. “The school will remin closed on Wednesday and Thursday and will reopen on Sunday,” confirmed an official at JSS private school.

A staffer at the Indian High School informed that they will be closed only on Thursday for Diwali. “As of now, there is no decision on whether the school is closed on Sunday,” a staffer confirmed.

Gems’ Modern Academy, Our Own English High School and Our Own Indian School, and Rajagiri International School Dubai have also marked only Thursday as holiday.

The JSS International School, Indian Academy, Emirates English Speaking School, Buds Public School, The Millennium School, and Indian International School also have a three-day weekend.

New Indian Model School said they were yet to confirm the dates for their Diwali break. “We will know on Thursday,” an official said.
