How to maximise strategic direction through enthusiasm and optimism in the workplace was the subject of a lecture for Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI) employees, which took place this week.

Titled: ‘Positive Energy and its Role in Institutional Leadership,’ the specialist presentation was organised by DMI - the Dubai government’s media agency - to show how positivity translates to good governance and the effective meeting of organisational goals.

Delivered by Dr. Mansoor Al Awar, Chancellor of Hamdan bin Mohammed Smart University, the lecture outlined the nature of positive energy from a scientific point of view, providing an analysis of its basic elements. It continued by examining how the heads of an organisation can adopt these elements and feed energy down to subordinates, thereby positively influencing the workplace culture and contributing to a unified corporate attitude. Ultimately, revealed Dr. Al Awar, this would enhance operational effectiveness and performance through the building of a more motivated and productive team.

"DMI is a firm believer in providing the necessary tools that will enable employees to meet their full potential in the workplace,” said Mariam Al Afridi, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications at DMI. “This lecture is the latest in our ongoing professional development programme of workshops and specialised courses that has been designed to enable DMI colleagues to get the most out of their respective roles. Internal communications is a fundamental aspect of DMI’s operations and is one that has a high priority, as it facilitates good team work that helps ensure the provision of a first class service. The subject of positive energy for this most recent initiative was chosen as DMI is keen to optimise the ‘good vibrations’ that create a harmonious working relationship between colleagues,” she added.

One specific aspect of the lecture, which took place at the Intercontinental Hotel, Festival City, Dubai, focused on positive energy in leadership as inspired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Dr. Al Awar cited the approach adopted by Sheikh Mohammed in creating a zeal for high performance throughout the various government departments and showed how this has promoted Dubai’s standing on the world stage. He recommended to the audience the adoption of a similar outlook in their respective roles, as each person has their own vital part to play in the building of Dubai.

“This was a fantastically informative and highly rewarding lecture - we were all extremely impressed with Dr. Mansoor Al Awar’s detailed presentation of the subject,” said Dr. Jassim Al Ali, Deputy CEO of Shared Services in DMI. “It has shown us how positive energy improves performance, maximises effectiveness and increases productivity in the workplace. As part of DMI’s strategy we always work for the best of our employees, we are all working together to inspire and encourage the staff to maximise their energies in providing an even higher standard of service,” he added.

Dr. Al Ali concluded: “Happiness and a positive outlook are the core ingredients for sustained achievement – they are the two qualities that help us to embrace the challenges that lie ahead, imbuing us with the enthusiasm to maintain continuous professional development.”
