Dubai’s DP World is developing a new education programme for kids that could make them masters of global trade and shipping business.
The global education programme aimed at students between the age group of 8 to 14 years will be introduced across the world where DP World is actively present and aims at educate about 34,000 students by 2020.
Announcing the project during the Arab Media Forum, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, DP World Group CEO and Chairman, said the idea is to enable the development of skilled workforce who can go on to work for the global shipping and logistics industry.
“Education is one of our main strategy. We are present across 40 countries. Our aim is to develop the right people to operate and work within the industry. Productivity is crucial,” said bin Sulayem.
The education programme is developed in coordination with Edcoms and has started as a pilot project in the UAE, India, Pakistan , Senegal and the UK from March.
It will be rolled out across the wide network of DP World locations starting June.
Among the issues the programme will focus are a deeper understanding of the ports, its operations, various skillsets required to operate a port and its associated operations, maritime mathematics, green initiatives and also about illegal wildlife trade.
“Raising awareness about the maritime sector, trade and logistics and related career options is important for us as a business and also the communities in which we operate around the world," he added.
The company staff will be responsible for liaising with local educational institutions to provide such trainings. Curriculum subjects covered will also include geography, mathematics, design and technology.
