Dubai Metro's Red Line Express train to stay

The express train of Dubai Metro has been established as a permanent daily ride.

The metro service, which runs between Rashidiya and Jebel Ali during early morning hours, was introduced by the Road and Transport Authority (RTA) in October on a trial basis to cater to the large number of early commuters.

The first train departing at 5.30 AM and the second at 5.40 AM in both directions form an addition to the regular train schedule, which starts services at 5.50.

It skips 14 stations on the Red Line, only serving the 13 most crowded stations. The total trip time between Rashidiya and Jebel Ali Station is thereby reduced with 10 minutes. The trip normally takes 60-70 minutes.

After five months of trial the service has proven to be a great success, said Ramadan Abdullah, Director of RTA's Rail Operations.

"The express service has been made a permanent service. The number of daily users is between 700-800, more than we initially expected," he told Emirates 24|7.

The stations that are served by the express train are Al Rashidiya, Emirates, Al Rigga, Union, Khalid bin Al Waleed, Al Karama, Al Jafiliya, Emirates Towers, Noor Islamic Bank, First Gulf Bank, Dubai Internet City, Ibn Battuta and Jebel Ali.
