Dubai Municipality has intensified its mosquito control campaign, and have so far inspected 30,720 construction sites in the emirate.

The inspections, carried out over the last four months, aims to help the officials identify key factors that lead to their growth, and are working on a plan to control the situation.

Hesham Al Yahya, head of pest control department of public health, said the rain in April has contributed to an increase in mosquitoes.

Fines worth Dh100,000 have been slapped on companies, where mosquito infestation was found. They were penalized for violating public health and safety regulations.

The department has also stepped up checks at airports, land ports, seaports, horse stables and racetracks, public parks and natural reserves.

The public can call 800900 if they spot any mosquitoes, flies and rodents around their homes.
