In a bid to improve activities of selling, buying as well as brokering activities in the fish market at Deira, Dubai Municipality has signed an agreement with Dubai Fishermen Co-Operative Association.
The agreement aims to enhance the process of Emiratization in the market as well as to apply mechanism to ensure the transparency and accuracy in the dealings.
The signing was held at civic body’s headquarters in Deira and was attended by senior officials from the both end.
“We would like to support those who are basically in the profession of fishing and encourage them to be continuing the same with confidence and zeal,” said Obeid Al-Shamisy, Assistant Director-General of Dubai Municipality.
Major General Mohammed Saeed Al-Marry, President of Fishermen Co-operative Association, said: “Our aim is to organize entire activities and put it in to a system which enhances the fair move of things. Emiratization doesn’t mean that other nationalities are out of the circle; all are welcome but through proper channels and system.”
He hoped that the essence of MoU will boost the citizens attract to the profession of fishing and ensure untoward tendencies in the selling, buying and pricing.
When the new move is set, all kind of information related to the fish items, price and rules and regulations will be clear and available for everybody without any curtains.
As per the agreement now signed on, the association will manage and control the broker activities in the market collaborating with municipality.
Dubai Municipality will continue its activities with regards to the general management and supervision of the market, maintaining the cleanliness and inspections on fish items.
The association will have special area for broker activities as well as an office to carry out administrative and accounting activities.
Soon after the signing of agreement, the association will appoint a team of not less than 20 persons who are from the UAE nationals, to supervise the brokering. They will have national dress code as well as identity card issued by the Municipality.
The activities will be held inside the market from 2 am up to 8 am as well as 3 pm to 8 pm daily.
The association will submit quarterly report to Dubai Municipality including details related to the fish items reaching the market, quantity of imported and exported stuff, daily price rates and the figures of vehicles coming from other countries to transport fish from Dubai.
The new move has been hailed from various corners as it will organize the activities and put the price under control.
