Islamic scholar Mohammed Ali bin Al Shaikh Abdulrahman Sultan Al Ulama has been named the Islamic Personality of the Year by the 20th Dubai International Holy Quran Award.

The award was founded in December 1998 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Its 20th session is also known as ‘Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Makoutm Session’.

Sultan Al Ulama was born in 1920 (1340 H). He memorised the Quran by heart at an early age and mastered Arabic and Shariah under the guidance of his father, the renowned scholar Imam Abdurrahman bin Yusuf - known as Sultan-al-Ulama.

He completed his education in India and Al Azhar in Cairo. Later, he returned to the UAE where he taught Arabic and Islamic Shariah (Islamic law) at the Rahmaniya School that was founded by his late father.

Following the death of his father in 1360 H, Mohammed took full responsibility of the Rahmaniya School, renovated it, and taught all subjects of Shariah there for over 40 years.

Thousands of students have learnt at his school, which he renamed as ‘Sultan-al-Ulama School for Religious Sciences’. Hundreds of his students have become prominent scholars and spread the religious knowledge and prophetic Sunnah (statements of The Prophet Mohammad [Peace Be Upon Him] and his actions and his (tacit) approvals and the description of his conduct and that of his self) across the globe.

Owning to his tireless effort, the school has become a leading hub for hundreds of students who flock to it every year to learn Shariah sciences, particularly as the school takes care of all their expenses.
