Dubai Police statistics reveal that the success rate of apprehending the criminals committing serious was very high.

According to a report in Arabic daily Emarat Al Youm, 97.9 per cent of those people who committed serious crimes such as murder, robbery and assault were already behind the bars.

These figures include those perpetrators also who managed to flee from the country but police arrested them later during the first half of this year.

Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazina, Commander-in-chief of Dubai Police, said the General Department of Criminal Investigation has achieved 100% success on arresting the culprits involved in murders over the last five years, pointing out a new mechanism adopted by Dubai Police of tracking the movements of suspects who were previously involved in crimes which helped reduce crimes related to physical assaults and knife attacks.

Al Mazina said there was only one unsolved murder case in the last five year but that also was solved by the police last month.

Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police for Criminal Investigation, said car theft crimes have fallen by more than 80 per cent.

He said there have been incidents of burglaries in recent months but the task forces successfully arrested a number of international gangs that carried out the crimes in the UAE.

Among them were Chinese and Latin gangs who had committed dozens of thefts.

He claimed that the real achievement of Dubai Police was recovering the stolen goods despite the fact that the stuff was smuggled abroad.

Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Khalil Al Mansouri also claimed that there was a significant decline now in car theft incidents.

He said currently registered reports about stolen cars occurred as a result of negligence of the vehicle owners as they left the vehicle with engine on or abandoned the vehicles for months, accumulating a lot of dirt on it.

He revealed that 30 complaints of stolen cars were registered during the first half of this year, which include passenger cars and buses.

He revealed that in most of incidents the Dubai police arrested the culprits before they could flee from the country which is a significant achievement for the emirate’s security teams.

Some of the missing trailers of trucks were abandoned by their owners in the desert areas, he added.

Quad bikes

Al Mansouri said thefts of the quad bikes are currently the only major problem.

He told Arabic daily that the problem is that these bikes look very similar and there are no plate numbers. Furthermore, most of the owners leave quad bike in front of their houses, making it easier for thieves to steal the bike.

He said rape, kidnapping or assault crimes are almost non-existent in Dubai.

He disclosed that all the complaints recorded in the first half of this year were from the women who went willingly with the friends or the persons whom they accused them later of raping them.

He emphasised that the CID teams have arrested most of those persons who were involved in robbing bank customers.

He said most of these crimes occurred as a result of negligence like leaving the money after withdrawing from the bank in the car.
