Dubai Police arrested six Arab nationals on charges of smuggling narcotic tablets in an operation by the Anti-narcotics Department, Dubai Police, called 'Autumn Leaves'.

Major-General Abdul Jalil Mahdi Al Asmawi, Director, Anti-narcotics Department, Dubai Police, said the suspects were nabbed at Al Batha border with Saudi.

About half-a-million Captagon pills worth bout Dh75million were seized from the suspects, he added.

Upon receiving reliable information the narcotics team along with Dubai Police set into action. In an operation spanning three days, the team successfully arrested the entire gang.

They began with an undercover operation, wherein a police agent posed as a client and met two of the suspects at a pre-decided location in International City in Dubai. They were arrested red-handed while receiving money from the agent.

These two then led the police to the rest of the gang members.

The first suspect – a 38-year-old Arab - claims to be an investor, the official said. The five others are also Arabs aged between 26 and 47 years hailing from two different countries. They all work as truck drivers.

It is alleged that the sixth suspect helps the gang find drivers for smuggling drugs to Saudi Arabia in return for huge sums of cash.

Legal action is being proceeded against the suspects.
