A Dubai resident’s participation in the ‘safe house’ programme of Dubai Police helped to solve the mystery of 57 thefts by a Pakistani, one of them in Dubai and the rest in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, according to General Khalik Ibrahim Al Mansouri, director of criminal investigation of Dubai Police.
The Dubai resident told police that he was travelling to his homeland in September 2011 and asked his house in Qusais to be on the police patrol map which tracks participants in the ‘safe house’ programme. The police patrol saw a light at night in his house though the resident had left the country. The house owner was contacted by phone in his country and he said there was no one living in his Dubai house. When police reached the house, it had been burgled.
The burglar was caught and he revealed that he was involved in 56 cases of theft of money and jewellery in Ras Al Khaimah valued at about Dh400,000.
After completing his jail term in Dubai for the crime committed in the emirate, the burglar was sent to Ras Al Khaimah to stand trial for the burglaries committed there.
Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Commander of Dubai Police, appealed to all citizens and residents to join the ‘safe house’ programme to protect their homes especially when going abroad.
He said residents can sign up for the ‘safe house’ programme through Dubai Police’s website
www.dubaipolice.gov.ae.
Dubai Police launched the ‘safe house’ programme in 2009 in which 207 people participated in 2010, 226 in 2011 and 19 during the first quarter of 2012.
