All private and public schools in Dubai will remain closed on January 12.

A spokesperson from Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) confirmed the news.

“All schools must adhere to this announcement,” the official stated.

All the schools that Emirates24|7 contacted confirmed that they will be closed and that the parents have been informed.

Some schools, which had marked January 13 as holiday on their annual calendar have altered it based on the official announcement.

“Our School Calendar (stamped by KHDA) has Monday, January 13 as a holiday to mark Prophet Mohammed’s (PBUH) Birthday.

But after the official announcement we will have the holiday on Sunday, January 12. There will be regular school on January 13,” a school circular read.

The Dubai Media Office had earlier declared next Sunday as holiday for "ministries and federal entities" through their official Twitter handle.

"Sunday 12th of January 2014 is an official holiday for ministries and federal entities on account of "Al-Mawlid Al-Nabawi" #UAE," tweeted the Dubai Media Office a few minutes ago.

Al-Mawlid Al-Nabawi marks Prophet Mohammed's (PBUH) birthday.
