Dubai’s police will seize cars whose drivers commit offences of at least Dh6,000 in line with a new law issued in late 2015  by Vice President and Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Cars involved in illegal races in the emirate will also be impounded as they pose a threat to human lives and public property.

In a statement posted on Twitter, Dubai’s police also warned that drivers who make mechanical alterations for higher speed to their cars will also have them impounded.

The statement said impounded cars involved in races can be released for up to Dh100,000 while owners of offending motorcycles must pay Dh50,000 for releasing their machines involved in damaging roads.

The new law authorized the police to sell impounded cars three months after they are seized if their owners do not pay the fines.

It also authorized police to deport truck drivers who jump the red lights.
