The Dubai government has allocated about Dh30 billion over the next 10 years to fight diabetes, said Hamad Mubarak Buamim, Director-General, Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

He said the huge sum of money has been allocated considering the fact that the Emirates is ranked second worldwide in diabetics versus population ratio.

Buamim stressed the importance of the contribution of the healthcare sector in the economy of the UAE. Emirates is ranked 31st among 174 countries a United Nations Human Development report, reported 'Al Bayan' newspaper.

He was speaking on the sidelines of a seminar and panel discussion on the healthcare sector organised by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the Ritz Carlton to discuss plans for the growth of this sector and how to improve its services.
