A 6.3 magnitude Iran earthquake at around 4pm UAE time was felt in locations as far and wide as Dubai, Doha, Manama and parts of Saudi Arabia, with minor swaying of high-rises reported in these locations.

Two villages in Iran are said to have been destroyed but the nuclear plant in Bushehr is said to be undamaged, according to early reports.

According to the Seismology department of the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS), the UAE’s official weather forecaster, the epicentre of the quake was 146km south-west of Shiraz, Iran, and it stuck at about 15:58 UAE time (11:58 GMT).

A second quake was felt 14 minutes after the first one, with its epicentre also about 153km south-west of Shiraz, Iran.

Dubai and Abu Dhabi residents, along with many others in the adjoining Gulf Arab region, took to social media and reported feeling the quake across the Gulf region.
