Ease to Sharjah traffic woes: Spruced up intersection opens
The vital Sheikh Rashid bin Saqr Al Qasimi intersection was opened to traffic following completion of the Dh40 million maintenance and improvement works, the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority announced on Thursday.
Yousuf Al Suwaihi, Chairman of the Authority, said the road project was undertaken as per directives of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to upgrade efficiency of the road network and to ensure the movement of smooth and free-flowing traffic, along with the highest levels of safety in the emirate.
He added that the Authority had implemented sustainability standards in the project in addition to advanced systems in traffic control, monitoring and analysis, as well as LED lights at the traffic signals.
According to the RTA, roads leading to the intersection have each been widened to three lanes to increase road capacity.
