UAE residents will be able to soon use their Emirates ID cards to avail insurance benefits at healthcare centres in Dubai.
According to a top official at the Dubai Healthy Authority (DHA), the plan to replace medical insurance cards with Emirates ID card will unfold through 2016.
“Our aim is to ensure that the entire population under medical cover can use their Emirates ID when availing medical care,” said Dr Haider Al Yousuf, Director of Health Funding at DHA.
As of now, UAE nationals covered under Saada insurance and residents (including expats) covered under the Enaya insurance plan, have already made the transition starting January 1, 2016.
“Those using Saada and Enaya insurance have their insurance accounts linked to their Emirates ID, and can safely use them,” Dr Al Yousuf added.
He explained that work is on to get all medical insurance companies on board.
“We plan to link all medical insurances to Emirates ID, and we expect the full transition to happen by the end of the year.”
The DHA is also in the process of linking “behavioural modification plan” to their medical insurance accounts during the switch. This will allow residents to work out a healthier plan.
“This is what we have planned for the first quarter of 2016. So, more details will follow.”
The key idea behind this is to help residents to take care of their health better.
Another project that will be underway is the public fund to help underprivileged citizens get adequate medical cover.
“It’s too early to talk about this, as we are still in the process of fine-tuning it.”
