Emirates Road mishap serves up morning jam

Traffic on Emirates Road towards Dubai was jammed following an accident near the Mirdiff City Centre.

The incident occurred this morning at around 8am and the tailback extended all the way up to the National Paints roundabout in Sharjah.

According to one motorist who passed the accident site the accident was between two cars. It was not clear if anyone was injured.

Emirates Road continues to be the most dangerous road in terms of the number of accidents and casualities.

According to police statistics, Emirates Road tops the list of the ten most dangerous sites accounting for 25 accidents in 2009, or 13 per cent of all traffic accidents in which a death occurred in the year, leaving 26 people dead in such accidents.

There were 14 accidents (which involved death) during the night and 11 during the day on Emirates Road, the highest in Dubai.
