The UAE’s top court ordered an Emirati employer to pay Dh50,000 fine for hiring an expatriate worker who is not on his sponsorship in violation of existing labour laws.
The unnamed employer appeared to have fought a pitched legal battle to avert the penalty but ended up losing the case as verdicts issued by the Federal Supreme Court (FSC) cannot be overturned and he was caught red handed by labour inspectors.
A court had earlier ordered him to pay that fine, prompting him to appeal.
After the appeals court upheld that sentence, he resorted to FSC, which supported the verdict.
Newspapers said the FSC also fined the worker Dh1,100 and ordered his deportation from the UAE.
