Fire breaks out at Discovery Gardens; one injured

Fire was reported at 8.30am, confirmed Civil Defence; it has been contained

A fire broke out at a construction site in Discovery Gardens on Monday morning, with one person injured in the blaze.

A spokesperson from Dubai Civil Defence confirmed the incident with Emirates 24|7, saying: “We received a call at 8.30am and teams from Al Quoz and Al Barsha stations arrived within minutes to contain the blaze.

“The fire was brought under control by 9.07am.”

The spokesperson further added: “The blaze occurred at a construction site near Ibn Battuta Mall, which resulted in one construction worker being injured in the incident.

“The worker has been taken to Rashid Hospital for treatment.”

The Civil Defence rep said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Anita Lakhiani, a Discovery Gardens resident, stated: “I was driving past Discovery Gardens on Sheikh Zayed Road when I saw a large plume of smoke around 8.45am. At the time, I did see a few Civil Defence trucks racing past us to get to the scene of the fire probably. Hopefully no one was seriously injured.”
