A fire destroyed 14 portacabins used as workers’ accommodation in Ras Al Khaimah on Monday evening, according to a report in the Arabic daily newspaper ‘Al Bayan.’

Civil Defence men put out the fire and prevented it from spreading to other portacabins. No injured were reported.

The caravans housed workers of a company building a school complex in the Emirate’s southern Dhait area.

RAK’s Ministry of Labour has ordered the company’s officials to immediate provide alternative housing for the workers.

Mohammed Abdullah Al Zaabi, Director of Civil Defence, said they moved to the scene of the incident soon after being informed about the fire by the police and the public.
