Etihad Airways has recommenced limited operations to and from Abu Dhabi following disruptions caused early this morning by severe fog.

The airport was closed at 2.30am causing serious disruption to flights by all airlines.

In a statement, Etihad Airways said that it diverted seven seven inbound flights to three airports in the UAE and delayed the arrival and departures of other services.

"Following the airport’s re-opening at 3.40am, most of the diverted flights proceeded to Abu Dhabi, while delayed flights have begun departing. However, fog continues to affect operations.

Flights are being rescheduled to carry passengers to their final destination as soon as possible, and extra staff has been sent to Abu Dhabi International Airport to assist delayed passengers."

Etihad Airways expects further delays throughout the day as aircraft are repositioned and flights are rescheduled.

Etihad Airways apologised for the inconvenience caused during this period.
