A warehouse fire that has been burning since Thursday in Jebel Ali is under control, according to Civil Defence sources, even as the road leading to the blaze remained closed to traffic as ‘pockets of fire’ were being put out on Sunday.

The fire reportedly broke out at the warehouses of a company that provides document storage and management services for customers in the region.

A source close to the incident spoke to Emirates 24|7 saying: “The fire broke out in the early hours on Thursday around 2am. From what we know, two buildings were affected by the blaze, both of which storing documents and media files for organisations in the region.”

An eyewitness at the scene also confirmed details of the blaze, adding: “Even on Sunday there was still smoke billowing from the area in Jebel Ali. The road has been blocked to traffic, but there were Civil Defence vehicles on the scene.”

A source from Civil Defence confirmed the news, saying: “The fire broke out on Thursday morning and spread across 2-3 warehouses. We were able to contain the blaze before it reached the offices.

“No one was injured in the incident, but due to the integrity of the structure caused by the fire, we were unable to enter the buildings to put out the blaze, so the fire was doused by dropping water over the structure from above.”

The Civil Defence source also added that “pockets of fire were still being put out on Sunday as the paper in the warehouses continued to smoulder, making it difficult to determine the heart of the fire.”
