In the first such tragic accident since the new year, four members of an Emirati family lost their lives on Emirates Road near Umm Al Quwain when the tyre of their vehicle burst on Saturday morning.

Five others suffered serious injuries, reported 'Gulf News'.

Captain Saif Salem Zaid, Head of Traffic section, Al Salamah Police Station, Umm Al Quwain, said two women, a 14-year-old girl and an infant died in the accident.

While the infant was killed on the spot, the two women succumbed to their injuries in hospital.

The injured — a woman, two children aged five and eight, the maid and the driver — were taken to Umm Al Quwain Hospital.

Sources said the dead and three of the injured are from the Al Khawatir family in Al Hamraniyah, Ras Al Khaimah.
