An animal which attacked a farm in Fujairah last week was a fox not a wolf and it bit the farm owner in self defence, the municipality in the eastern emirate has said.
Newspapers last week quoted the farm owner as saying he was bitten in the leg during an attack by a hungry wolf before it was killed by the farmer workers.
“Examination of the carcass showed that the animal which attacked the farm was not a wolf but a wild fox,” said Maral Shareefi, director of wildlife at the municipality.
“This fox apparently came to the farm because it was hungry and it has used to attack chicken in other farms.
"The main reason for such animals to come close to inhabited areas is that their habitat has been destroyed by man.”
