Gas blast at jewellery shop in Fujairah

A gas cylinder blast hurled jewelry on the road and caused panic among residents while a worker was injured inside the badly damaged gold repair shop in Dibba Fujairah on Sunday, a newspaper reported on Monday.

The blast was heard through the town and caused panic among the residents of Al Mahlab neighbourhood, where the shop is located, the Dubai-based Al Bayan Arabic language daily said, quoting Dibba police.

It said the blast occurred in the evening and resulted in severe damage to the shop and serious burns to the worker inside.

“The blast was so powerful that a large quantity of jewelry was hurled out of the shop and left strewn on the road,” it said, adding that police are investigating the incident.
