A Filipina maid made a hole in a piece of soap to stuff golden jewellery of her employer in it in order to smuggle it out of his house received three-month jail followed by deportation by the Dubai Court of First Instance.

LRJ, 29, was also found guilty of stealing cash from her employer’s house.

Her friend, DDJ, 43, Filipina, who is the neighbour’s maid had helped LRJ transfer the amounts she stole against Dh20 telephone card, also received three-month jail followed by deportation.

FMS, 33, Emirati manager, testified that in February the family discovered that gold jewellery was missing from their Jumeira house. A month later my mother told me that she had lost Dh2,000. I suspected the maid and decided to trap her. We kept gold jewellery in the drawer of the bedroom which went missing.

Confronting the maid with the theft, she initially denied but later confessed to the theft and handed over a blue Dove soap. She confessed to cutting the soap into two pieces…. Made a hole in each half… stuffed the jewellery and melted the soap so that it appeared normal in an attempt to smuggle the jewellery out of the house,” he testified.

While police were in the house and wanted to search her, she dropped a small carton box. Around Dh1,000 were hidden in the box. In her room there were receipts of money transfer in the name of DDJ who is the neighbour’s maid.

DDJ confessed to transferring amounts to favour LRJ against a Dh20 telephone card for each transfer.

DDJ was also found guilty of possessing stolen items.
