A government department has taken a company to court to demand compensation fort its failure to abide by a contract to supply one million security entry cards to the department.
The unnamed department said the company supplied it with cards that are below agreed specifications and demanded Dh200,000 compensation.
A criminal court in Abu Dhabi had earlier sentenced the company manager to three years in jail in absentia and ordered the firm to refund the department with Dh1.7 million paid for the cards.
The court heard the case again on Sunday after the company objected to the earlier sentence on the grounds it was taken in absence.
“The department said it had contracted with the company to supply it with high-quality cards from a German firm…but it violated the contract when it imported the cards from another company and they turned out to be below the required specifications,” 'Al Ittihad' newspaper said.
