The grace period announced for registration for the 'baqala' (grocery) reform project in Abu Dhabi city and suburbs is coming to an end on Wednesday, March 6. Grocery owners who want to remain in business will have to register before March 6.

Those who have registered within the grace period are granted a period of four months until the end of June to implement the new standards and specifications to their groceries. The governmental committee for regulating the retail (grocery) sector in the Abu Dhabi city called upon grocery owners to rush to register. They can begin the process for registration at the Technical Support Office for the project at Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority.

Mohamed Jalal Al Rayssi, Official Spokesperson for the Committee, pointed out the Committee has been continuously accommodating requests for groceries with a view to ensure the maximum possible number of new groceries to meet the needs of the consumers. "The new grocery has already become a landmark of the city, offering superior services at global standards. New retail chains have already opened their doors in the city," he added.
