There are currently no plans to alter the grace speed limit regulations that are in place on the roads of Dubai.
Last week, traffic authorities of Abu Dhabi announced that the grace speed that allows motorists to exceed the maximum speed limit with 20kmph will gradually be annulled.
"There are no such plans for the emirate of Dubai," confirmed Colonel Zaif M Al Mazroi of the Traffic Department of Dubai Police.
In both emirates, motorists are currently allowed a 20kmph overrun of the maximum speed limit on most roads.
When the maximum speed limit is 100kmph, penalties will be given when the motorist is seen driving with a 120kmph speed.
This grace speed will gradually be reduced from the beginning of next year explained Abu Dhabi traffic police chief Brigadier Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi.
“From the beginning of next year, we will start cutting the grace speed limit gradually so the drivers will get used to the new limit.
“Within two years from that date, there will be no grace speed on all roads," he was quoted as saying in daily ‘Al Ittihad’.
The measures are part of a long-term traffic strategy designed to achieve zero deaths on roads by 2030.
