The relatives of an Asian man murdered with a cleaver by his wife and her lover in Sharjah have rejected an offer by the killers to pay ‘diya’ (blood money) and insisted on their death in line with Islamic law, a newspaper reported on Sunday.

The defendants’ lawyer said he was told by the victim’s family at home that they would not accept any blood money and would demand a death sentence when they come to the UAE for the trial towards the end of this month.

“I have called those relatives and they rejected diya. They insist on death punishment against the defendants,” Majid Al Gallaf said, quoted by ‘Emarat Al Youm’ daily, which said the judge adjourned the trial to April 5.

Police had arrested the Asian woman and her boyfriend on charges of using a cleaver to murder her husband and cut his body into pieces before burying it in an isolated area in an industrial zone in the emirate.
