Indian hits DSF jackpot after 11 tries...and waits

It took 11 Infiniti raffle coupons for lady luck to smile at Indian expat Mohammed Ali. And his wait is not yet over.

Speaking to Emirates24|7, Ali said he had bought 11 coupons during the month-long Dubai Shopping Festival, which concluded Sunday.

However, the winning ticket is in his wife’s name who has to travel from India to collect the prize.

“I am a regular customer of Eppco site number 98. I bought a ticket sold by Jennely, a salesgirl at the site, which finally got selected in the raffle draw. Now I have to bring my wife to collect the price,” said Ali, a driver and father of two sons.

He has been taking coupons in his kids’ and wife’s name. One reason for putting the names of his family members is because he wanted to bring them to Dubai for a family reunion, he added.

He is now busy arranging passports for his sons and wife so they can fly in. They are expected to be here in four days, he said.

“Since 1996, when the shopping festival began, I have been trying various raffle draws and finally a ticket in the name of my wife got the prize. I can bring them here for some time and I am excited about meeting them and collecting the price money,” Ali said.

Ali earns Dh4,000 per month.

The site has sold raffle coupons to three Infiniti winners and one Nissan winner.
