A new bridge will replace Floating Bridge in Dubai, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

Meanwhile, Floating Bridge will be moved to Sheraton Gateway that connects Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Street in Bur Dubai and Omar Bin Al Khattab Road in Deira.

This will help reduce traffic congestion and ensure smooth flow of vehicles until the new bridge is completed, RTA announced.

Al Ittihad Bridge, to be built at a cost of Dh1.1billion, will be completed in three years, reported ‘Al Bayan’ Arabic daily.

Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman and Executive Director, RTA, said the new bridge will be of outstanding architecture design – an aesthetic icon on Dubai Creek.

Al Ittihad Bridge will comprise 12 lanes, six in each direction. The 61.6m wide bridge will have an arch that rises 100 meters. It will also have a pedestrian walkway in each direction.

The new project will be located near Dubai Creek Park, Dubai Courts from Bur Dubai, near Deira City Center and Dubai Golf Club of Deira. It will provide free movement of traffic at all intersections around the clock.

Once complete, Al Ittihad Bridge will enable traffic movement non-stop all day and passage of big yachts underneath. The capacity of the bridge is approximately 24,000 vehicles per hour.
