Jumping red lights kills 13 in 2010

Drivers jumping the red lights killed13 people and injured 695 in the UAE in 2010, a police chief was reported on Monday as saying.

The death toll was far below 2009, when 23 people were killed and 813 injured in accidents caused by jumping the red signal, said Brigadier Gaith Al Zaabi, director of the traffic coordination department at the ministry of interior.

Quoted by Alkhaleej newspaper, he said 395 accidents caused by violating the traffic signal were recorded in 2010 compared with 412 in 2009.
