A court of cassation in Abu Dhabi upheld a death sentence against a 25-year-old UAE man on charges of killing another local man following an argument over road priority.

The court acquitted the killer’s brother and sentenced the defendant to death after the victim’s relatives rejected diya (blood money) and insisted on his death.

The victim, who was around 50 years old, died during a fight with the two brothers after an argument over road priority in Abu Dhabi.

The defendant said he intercepted the victim with his car after he made an obscene move to him while they were driving next to him.

Police said the victim died in hospital nearly an hour after he was admitted with injuries caused by beating by sticks.
