Largest attempt to smuggle in narcotic drugs foiled

The Sharjah Police in an operation carried out jointly with the Fujairah Police and the Border Security Forces has foiled an attempt by an international gang to smuggle in 2.5 tonnes of hashish into the country across 'Khor Fakkan' in the East Coast.

This is the largest quantity of narcotic drugs ever attempted to be smuggled into the country in the last twenty years.

In the sting operation, a vessel carrying the consignment was confiscated along with the trader and 13 crew members including 12 Iranians and a Pakistani.

Earlier in 1991, a similar attempt made by an international trafficking gang was foiled in an operation called 'Operation Khorfakkan'.
