The Sharjah Police Traffic and Patrols Department, in cooperation with the Department of Information and Public Relations, have launched a traffic campaign entitled ‘Be Aware of Bypassing Traffic Lights’.

Any motorist found jumping a red signal will be liable for a Dh800 fine, confiscation of the vehicle for 15 days and eight black points.

Major Abdel Rahman Khater, Head of Traffic Awareness and Media Section, said jumping a red signal could prove to be extremely fatal and was an act most often committed by errant motorists.

“Various traffic signals have surveillance cameras mounted on them for the purpose of tracking and recording violations of traffic regulations, especially instances of vehicles jumping red signals,” he warned.

The campaign aims to raise awareness among motorists about the importance of respecting traffic rules.

Pamphlets with instructions and guidelines, both in Arabic and English, will be distributed as well.
