Lovelorn man sets fire to girl's kitchen

A  jobless Emirati, AKI, 19, is accused of intentionally setting fire to the house of an Indian because the latter rejected his request to marry her daughter, the Dubai Criminal Court heard on Sunday.

KB, an Indian housewife, told the prosecution that on February 6 at about 1am, she heard a crash in the kitchen while she was asleep with her children.

She rushed down to find a bottle on fire in the kitchen. She saw the accused running away. He stopped on seeing her and shouted: "You see, I burnt your house....let me marry your daughter."

The court adjourned the case until October 19 for the prosecution to ensure the attendance of the accused.
