Call it divine providence, luck or destiny – but Emarati Ahmed Mohammed Al Shehi, 25, stared death in the face and walked away.

In an amazing story of a death-defying escape Shehi survived after a heavy truck fell on, and smashed, his car on Al Rams street in Ras Al Khaimah.

The truck estimated to weigh about 50 tonnes crushed the car, but miraculously Al Shehi escaped with minor injuries.

Speaking to Emarat Al Youm, Al Shehi said, “The accident occurred when a Toyota Corolla car overtook me and the truck, and then made an illegal turn. The driver of the truck tried to avoid hitting the Corolla, but while turning his vehicle away, it fell on my car crushed it. As soon I realised I tried to protect my head.”

Al Shehi said that after the collision he was struggling to breathe due to the heavy load on his car and there was no space for to move. He remained inside the vehicle for two hours before being rescued.

He could not call out for help because he couldn’t breathe and all he could do is press the car horn.

He added that as the rescuers lifted the truck from the top of his vehicle those were the hardest moments of his life.

After the Civil Defense lifted the truck with a crane they used electric cutters to cut into the smashed vehicle and rescue Ahmed .
Ahmed was admitted to a hospital where he received treatment.

The driver of the Toyota Corolla car fled from the scene quickly, but the truck driver was able to take down the vehicle number and the Al Rams police arrested him later.
