Update: A major crash on Emirates Road has resulted in a partial closure on the highway.

Dubai Police has confirmed the news on its official Twitter handle, saying: “Road closure on Emirates Road opposite Hamdan Sport complex towards Abu Dhabi due to an accident. Please use alternative routes.”

According to witness accounts, the authorities have deployed its air wing on E611 (former Bypass Road) near the Umm Suqeim Road/Al Qudra turnoff towards Arabian Ranches.

The road closure has resulted in tailbacks stretching towards Sharjah with reports coming in that traffic is slow moving on Al Ittihad Road to Dubai, along with a similar jam on Al Rabat Street, Sharjah Ring Road towards Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

Commuters have woken up to a gridlock heading out of Sharjah on Tuesday morning, with an accident reported on one of the major highways connecting to Dubai, while another jam is also being reported on a parallel artery.

Dubai Police has confirmed an accident on the busy Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road earlier today, tweeting: “An accident has been reported on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road opposite Al Qusais Cemetery towards Dubai; please be extra cautious.”

Meanwhile, commuter Noel G tweeted a picture of a gridlock on Emirates Road (former Bypass Road) where cars are reportedly crawling while heading out of Sharjah.

There are also reports of slow moving traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road, near the Marina Mall exit, heading towards Jebel Ali; while Hessa Street and First Al Khail Street are also facing congestion.

Across the highway, Abu Dhabi Police reported jams around 7.30am, tweeting: “Traffic congestion and delays before Mehwi Bridge inbound Abu Dhabi.”
